Abra and Jeff are two of the most thoughtful, kind and loving couples. Their creative style, humor, and brilliant minds created a one of a kind vibrant vintage handmade wedding.  Among many details, Abra’s handmade dress, handmade vintage headpiece, and fresh flower parasol made with orchids and a 100 year old vintage handle, stem, and frame was extraordinarily unique!  The entire wedding was filled with exquisite designs and intentions that were felt by everyone.

From the bride….

Jeff and I met in the summer of 2006 through a mutual friend in Northern California. We quickly began dating. After a few years in California we decided to move to Portland Oregon in 2010. Jeff and I were very much in love and how he proposed was above and beyond.  I was never a girl that dreamed of “meeting my prince and fantasized about my wedding.”

In November of 2010 just a few weeks after I moved to Portland Jeff prepared some big plans for us.  Under the disguise of going “mushroom hunting” Jeff took me to a small airport and lead me into a helicopter saying he wanted to go have lunch at a winery.  When we landed we walked off the path toward the winery and Jeff got down on his knee, presented me a ring he had designed with a stone he mined himself and asked me to marry him! He then lead me to the cafe at the winery where had a wedding box awaiting for me that held letters from my family member and our closest friends giving their blessing for our marriage!!! Everyone knew but me!!!!

During our two years of engagement we brainstormed many different ideas from Portland to the San Juan Islands on an organic Farm.  A friend of mine guided me in the direction of  Roshambo Farms, a small organic farm, winery and chickens, turkeys and goats in Healdsburg California. The location was rustic with its odd art from the 50,s 60,s 70,s  A garden in bloom with its fall colors. They even had a small guest house where we were able to stay for 3 nights!!! It was perfect. We were able to have guests stay at B and B ‘s in the area. Our date was set for September 29th, 2012 with a Harvest Full Moon!

My Dress was made by my childhood friend whom is a couture Designer, Leila Bazzani. My mother had gathered a bag full of vintage slips from a friend of her’s whose mother in law they once belonged to. In the bag were silk and cotton lace in great condition. They had been lying around for about a year when I thought wow, these pieces could make an amazing gown. I sent them to Leila In LA. We worked on a design together that would work with the lace and my body. I flew to LA for a week and she worked on the dress. I wanted a dress that I would wear again and that was not white. The base of the dress was dusty coral duchess silk.  We then hand dyed the cotton and silk to another shade of dusty coral. Leila hand sewed all the lace bits to the base that she created. She even made me my detachable bustle!!! I Coupled this dress with a one of a kind vintage forward fashion hat made by Tree Marie with Love and Sass perfectly fit my dress and style.

I have a vintage umbrella/parasol collection and I also recover parasols. So of course I was going to have parasols in the wedding. I did not want a bouquet I wanted a fresh flower parasol. A vision of a friend and the owner Adria with Lavish Flora (assembled by Raychael) they designed a “flower parasol” made with orchids and a 100 year old vintage handle, stem, and frame. It was spectacular. I had some girls carry a bouquet and others carried a parasol for the ceremony.

I wanted to get my palms and feet hennaed. I was a High School exchange student in Indonesia. All the brides would get henna. I wanted to pull in my Acheness, Indonesian influence to the wedding Hence the bright colors. Blue Lotus did an amazing job. It was gorgeous!!!

Jeff wanted to put together a vintage style suit that had lots of originality. He struck upon the perfect suit at Hollywood Vintage in Portland, Oregon. The suit was 80 years old and was in perfect condition! His body frame was ideal for vintage suits and he only needed to do minimal tailoring to get a perfect fit. The suit was dark colored and wool. To accent the outfit, he went to Michael Allen’s tailors in PDX and had a dress shirt and cream colored double breasted vest made to complement the 20’s vintage suit. He wore a silk purple and green tie and completed the look with spats for his shoes and a pocket watch.

Our ceremony was transcendental with a focus of high consciousness. Master Healer Danadoost set the tone for the day. It was spectacular.

The decor of the wedding was vintage goblets of various colors and mason jars with name tags. The flowers were grown by a friend and her mother Monique Blakenheim from Santa Rosa ca, whom is a master gardener. They did all the bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres and table arrangements. The cotton napkins were hand dyed. We had blow up lights that illuminated the night, trees and grounds with inflatabill lights.

Being Vegetarian and having a wedding on a farm at the end of September was divine. We hired a local chef to create some delicious local meals. Dan Lucia and his staff did a superb job!! We asked close friends and family members to bring an appetizer . As for dessert  We wanted an assortment. We had mooncakes since it was the Harvest Moon, lots of fresh organic fruit pies, Raw chocolates, raw cake, cookies  and hazelnut cake. We had late night asian style veggie tacos made on a taco bike and herbal elixirs to keep folks warm.

Our First dance was a swing dance to LOVE originally done by Nat King Cole. For a late night snack we had a “taco bike” that keep everyone going the whole night.  Our wedding was filled with love from family and friends that will be remembered the rest of our lives.
