Humboldt Wedding - Avenue of the Giants - California Anya + Connor
What happens when a Siberian Russian marries a fiery redheaded sports enthusiast? Well, what we saw was an incredible array of natural beauty, philosophical depth, and comedy. Anya and Connor’s wedding combined Connor’s rural roots in the hills of Humboldt County with Anya’s upbringing on the other side of the world near the worlds deepest Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia. Their simple and natural ceremony with 40 people in Williams Grove on the Avenue of the Giants was the perfect location. We’ve photographed a number of Humboldt weddings from this community and feel right at home. The redwood trees set an exquisite tone with nature’s natural decorations. These giants have a very old and peaceful feeling, the perfect cathedral. Both Anya and Connor shared some of the most well thought out vows we’ve ever heard. We are pretty sure they covered every aspect of a relationship from beginning to end. Deep, funny, and brave. And it was so wonderful to see a translator translate everything from English to Russian to Anya’s parents during their intimate unplugged ceremony. Both Anya and her parents glowed with an elegance from their Russian roots accompanied by a lovely silliness. The best combination! Anya and Connor exited the ceremony in a convertible through the massive grove of redwoods followed by a semi-formal reception with 100 people at one of our favorite venues in Briceland called Beginnings. This venue is killer because there isn’t any curfew and the acoustics and visual atmosphere of the Octagon enhance the experience.
Photography by JOS studios. Anya got ready at Two Magnolia Beauty Shoppe. Anya’s gorgeous dress was made by Enzoani and shoes by Badgley Mischka. Connor’s tux was from J. Crew. The brilliant flowers were made by Tranquility Lane. And the epic DJ that inspired all of the great dancing was Julian Mocine-McQueen.
